Course Description:
This is a course offered for the professional seeking current information regarding the new era of the lymphatic system, which is no longer secondary to the blood vascular system. Venous and lymphatic systems are mutually interdependent. However, both systems are “mutually complimentary” ONLY when they are in normal condition and functioning appropriately. When one of these two systems should fail (e.g. chronic venous hypertension, lymphedema), the homeostasis between the two systems is threatened and such mutual interdependence generates a new problem (Lee, Laredo, and Nevill, 2015). A collaborative approach to wound care and lymphedema therapy is the awareness of coexistence of edema with venous ulceration, and not on lymphoedema secondary to cancer, surgery, renal disease, and drug therapy.
