Course Description:
• Identify the medical and social determinates of health that would suggest that a community health worker be utilized.
• Identify how community health workers are extenders of care both in a practice and in a community agency setting.
• Identify the scope of work performed by community health workers and the training they receive.
• Identify the return on investment using community health workers as illustrated in the patient populations described in the presentation.
• Outline eight key components of Executive Function Skills.
• Describe the functional relevancy of deficits.
• Learn treatment ideas when facilitating treatment groups.
• Demonstrate how to differentially diagnose aphasia and apraxia.
• Describe treatment interventions for aphasia and apraxia.
• List special considerations in the diagnostic and treatment planning process.
• Identify innovative programming tools to incorporate into their clinical setting.
• Define the principles of neuroplasticity.
• Describe current research on neuroplasticity and rehabilitation across disciplines.
• Discuss how to develop an intensive therapy program based on neuroplasticity principles.
• Recognize barriers to implementing rehab programs based on.
• Identify main components and demonstrate basic proficiency with identifying compassion fatigue, stress and anxiety; and their stages of severity.
• Learn and apply the Seven Skills of Resiliency.
• Appropriately connect and apply resiliency skills and compassion fatigue interventions to clinical presentations and clinical needs – connect diagnosis to practice.
• Identify innovative programming tools to incorporate into clinical setting.
• Participants will be able to identify treatment strategies for each level of stroke rehab.
• Discuss treatment ideas for spasticity.
• Demonstrate techniques to improve gait.
• Describe ways of increasing comfort with patient ambivalence.
• Explain components if motivational interviewing.
• Discuss and break down each component of motivational interviewing.
• Discuss patients shame, trust issues and fear of change.
• Describe components of the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA) philosophy and Living with Aphasia: Framework for Outcome Measurement (A-FROM) domains.
• Describe the relationship between narrative and identity, and how both may be affected by a communication disorder.
• Identify types of illness narratives and the importance of listening to a patient’s story.
• Identify three evidence-based methods for incorporating narrative practices in treatment to support identity reconstruction in persons with aphasia.
• Select techniques and troubleshooting options which promote the most effective outcomes for muscle tone management and UE function.
• Apply evidence-based interventions comprising technologies and modalities to induce neuroplasticity.
• Differentiate between common visual disturbances and select effective interventions and referrals.
• Identify innovative programming tools to incorporate into their clinical setting.
• Demonstrate techniques to improve gait
• Apply evidence-based interventions comprising technologies and modalities to induce neuroplasticity.
• Explore casting options for management of spasticity and improvement of gait Identify innovative programming tools to incorporate into their clinical setting.

• Develop assessment and clinical observation skills for common visual impairments with the ABI population.
