Course Description:

The purpose of this ISB is to build the vestibular knowledge base of therapists across the Corewell Health system so all clinicians offering vestibular therapy feel confident performing a thorough vestibular assessment. The end goal is that regardless of where a patient may attend therapy, all patients would undergo the same, comprehensive vestibular therapy assessment. The evening of learning will consist of instructional education, as well as skill-based lab portions, during which time therapists will have the opportunity to practice performing a complete bedside vestibular evaluation, with assistance from a Vestibular SIG member. The topics that will be covered include use of the vestibular bedside exam (spontaneous nystagmus, head shaking test, head thrust test, skull vibration, dynamic visual acuity test (DVA), and Dix Hallpike maneuvers). Vestibular physiology and anatomy will be reviewed to help corelate pathologic nystagmus with vestibular system dysfunction. Review of assessment for BPPV with the Dix-Hallpike tests and Roll Tests and will also be covered. There will be two hands on/breakout sessions during which attendees can practice the bedside exam, BPPV treatment maneuvers, and familiarize themselves with the Frenzel Goggle equipment.
