Course Description:
Osteoporosis falls outside of most specialties, with a majority being followed by endocrinologists. Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation has a unique perspective in the treatment of osteoporosis by prescribing various exercise programs to improve bone health. Additionally, rehabilitation for osteoporosis aims to improve bone strength, balance, posture, and overall function while reducing the risk of falls and fractures. This presentation will provide information on osteoporosis and osteopenia including identification of a method for diagnosis and patients at risk for these conditions. Additionally, pathophysiology for development of osteoporosis and targeted interventions through medication and exercise will also be presented.
