Course Description:
Losing a limb can have an enormous impact on a person, both physically and emotionally. Amputees can return to their independent lives with training, assistive devices and ongoing support. Gaining mobility and independence is crucial, but physical and emotional recovery can be challenging. The 2024 Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital Limb Loss Conference will provide evidence-based information on advances in osseointegration limb replacement, managing pain after amputation and prosthesis management. Key topics for living an active lifestyle include componentry and gait training with power knees, and neural data acquisition for use in myoelectric control of prostheses. The changing needs of pediatric limb loss patients and the Range of Motion Project will also be presented.
